How to Determine a Wheel or Rim Bolt Circle Pattern

So you have a wheel or rim that you need to determine the bolt pattern of.  There are several fairly simple ways to calculate the wheel bolt pattern.  Below is a method to measure and determine your wheel or rim bolt pattern by measuring the wheel bolt circle pattern chord length:

Step 1.

Measure across the lugs or measure to the inside of the bolt holes.

Step 2.

Measure the lug or measure to the inside diameter of the bolt hole.

Step 3.

Calculate the Wheel Bolt Circle Pattern Using the Following Formulas:


3 Bolt Wheel Pattern:

Subtract the Measurement of the wheel hole or lug (Step 2) from the measurement across the lugs or holes (Step 1)

Multiply the result by 1.1547” to obtain the wheel bolt circle pattern in inches.

Multiply the inches result by 25.4 to obtain the wheel bolt circle pattern in Millimeters.


4 Bolt Wheel Pattern:

Subtract the Measurement of the wheel hole or lug (Step 2) from the measurement across the lugs or holes (Step 1)

Multiply the result by 1.41422” to obtain the wheel bolt circle pattern in inches.

Multiply the inches result by 25.4 to obtain the wheel bolt circle pattern in Millimeters.


5 Bolt Wheel Pattern:

Subtract the Measurement of the wheel hole or lug (Step 2) from the measurement across the lugs or holes (Step 1)

Multiply the result by 1.7013” to obtain the wheel bolt circle pattern in inches.

Multiply the inches result by 25.4 to obtain the wheel bolt circle pattern in Millimeters.


6 Bolt Wheel Pattern:

Subtract the Measurement of the wheel hole or lug (Step 2) from the measurement across the lugs or holes (Step 1)

Multiply the result by 2.0” to obtain the wheel bolt circle pattern in inches.

Multiply the inches result by 25.4 to obtain the wheel bolt circle pattern in Millimeters.


7 Bolt Wheel Pattern:

Subtract the Measurement of the wheel hole or lug (Step 2) from the measurement across the lugs or holes (Step 1)

Multiply the result by 2.3048” to obtain the wheel bolt circle pattern in inches.

Multiply the inches result by 25.4 to obtain the wheel bolt circle pattern in Millimeters.


8 Bolt Wheel Pattern:

Subtract the Measurement of the wheel hole or lug (Step 2) from the measurement across the lugs or holes (Step 1)

Multiply the result by 2.6131” to obtain the wheel bolt circle pattern in inches.

Multiply the inches result by 25.4 to obtain the wheel bolt circle pattern in Millimeters.
